The Deltec 'i' DC pump with protein skimmers has a new emergency overflow system that prevents the collection cup from overflowing in the event that the water level of the collection box suddenly exceeds the specified water depth or the air inlet becomes clogged. As the water level rises in the body of the protein skimmer, the air supply to the pump is automatically switched off via the emergency overflow, reducing the risk of the cup overflowing if the water level in the crankcase ever rises due to a failure in the return pump.

The new protien skimmers also contain minimum and maximum level specifications on the exhaust pipes for easy installation.

The 'double bottom' foot plate design ensures that water can enter the protein skimmer body into a cavity within the foot plate and into the integrated level monitoring tube and the emergency overflow tube. This new design feature ensures that water leaves the protein skimmer body at the lowest point, greatly reducing the likelihood of microbubbles escaping from the body, increasing contact time of air and water and also reducing noise and turbulence within the protein skimmer body. .

Due to the accumulation of waste and the build-up of calcium carbonate, protein skimmer pumps generally have to perform in a harsh environment and have to be cleaned regularly to maintain peak performance.
